Hyderabad, Apr 30 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced the introduction of a Centralized Procurement Policy aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in the supply of educational materials to students across Telangana.
Reviewing welfare departments, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure timely distribution of uniforms, notebooks and other essentials, setting June 15 as the deadline for completing supply to all students.
He said payments to suppliers would be cleared promptly to avoid delays.
The policy will cover procurement for institutions under the Education, BC, Minority, Tribal and SC Welfare departments.
Revanth noted that the earlier decentralized system led to irregularities, lack of uniformity and instances of misappropriation when departments handled procurement independently.
Stressing that there would be no compromise on quality, the Chief Minister said the objective is to benefit students, not suppliers.
He directed officials to ensure high standards in all materials, including notebooks, uniforms, school bags, trunk boxes, plates, glasses, tracksuits, bed sheets and ID cards, while maintaining strict timelines.
To strengthen monitoring, he suggested appointing nodal officers at the mandal level to oversee distribution and ensure last-mile delivery to schools and hostels.
Officials were instructed to document the process through photographs and videos and verify that every student receives a complete set of materials.
The Chief Minister also called for collecting feedback from students on the quality of supplies and decided to constitute a coordination committee involving SC, ST, BC, Minority and Education departments to streamline implementation.
Senior officials, including State Government Advisor P. Sudarshan Reddy and other department heads, attended the review meeting.
