Telangana BJP Slams Congress Over Student Welfare, Seeks CM’s Resignation
Hyderabad, July 26 (TNT): Escalating its attack on the Congress government over student welfare, the Telangana BJP on Sunday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, alleging that his government had “betrayed” nearly 20 lakh students by failing to clear fee reimbursement dues and fulfil election promises.
In a statement, Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao alleged that fee reimbursement arrears amounting to nearly ₹12,000 crore had pushed students, particularly those belonging to SC, ST, BC and EBC communities, into severe financial distress.
He claimed that several colleges were withholding students’ certificates due to non-payment of fees by the government, depriving lakhs of students of opportunities for higher education and employment.
Targeting the Congress government over higher education, Rao alleged that it had failed to release ₹1,000 crore due to Osmania University, thereby weakening one of the State’s premier educational institutions and affecting the academic future of thousands of students.
The BJP leader also accused the Congress of reneging on its poll promise of providing a monthly unemployment allowance of ₹4,000 to unemployed youth and alleged that the government had failed to release a job calendar despite assurances made before the Assembly elections.
Holding Chief Minister Revanth Reddy morally responsible for what he termed the government’s failure to honour its commitments to students and unemployed youth, Rao demanded that he resign from office.
