Telangana Assembly session from September 7; CM asks MLAs to fast-track irrigation projects
Hyderabad, Aug 24 (TNT): The Telangana Assembly session will commence on September 7, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy informed Congress legislators during a meeting at the Secretariat here on Monday, as the state government prepares for a fresh political and legislative round with focus on development and pending irrigation projects.
Reddy’s meeting with available ministers and MLAs also focused on constituency-level development.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed legislators to expedite land acquisition for irrigation projects in their respective constituencies.
The Chief Minister cautioned that delays in land acquisition would prevent completion of irrigation projects and assured legislators that the government would sanction funds required for land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) and forest clearances.
The directions assume significance ahead of the Assembly session, with the ruling Congress likely to face political scrutiny over implementation of its development commitments and constituency-level works.
Reddy also asked legislators to give greater attention to development programmes in their constituencies and ensure that pending works were taken up expeditiously.
The Chief Minister’s emphasis on land acquisition and irrigation projects comes amid the government’s efforts to push major infrastructure and irrigation works, while seeking greater coordination between legislators and the administration.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Seethakka, besides Assembly whips and several MLAs, attended the meeting.
MPs Kadiyam Kavya, Raghuveer Reddy, Anil Kumar Yadav and Vem Narendar Reddy and MLC Baswaraju Saraiah also attended the meeting.
