Telangana Allocates Rs 60 Crore for Katamayya Protective Kits for 50,000 Beneficiaries
Hyderabad, Sept 28 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday said the state government was prioritising BC welfare, with ₹450 crore in scholarships transferred directly to the bank accounts of 1.30 lakh students and ₹60 crore allocated for protective kits for 50,000 toddy tappers.
Reviewing the functioning of the BC Welfare Department along with BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at Praja Bhavan, Vikramarka directed officials to ensure that welfare benefits reach all eligible beneficiaries without delay.
The Deputy Chief Minister said ₹450 crore had been deposited into students’ accounts under the pre-matric and post-matric scholarship schemes through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
He also instructed officials to ensure that diet and cosmetic charges for students staying in welfare hostels were credited to their accounts every month on time.
Under the Katamayya Protective Kits scheme, kits have been sanctioned for 50,000 beneficiaries, of whom 40,000 have already received them. The remaining 10,000 beneficiaries are undergoing training, and the kits will be distributed after they complete it.
Vikramarka said the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme, aimed at providing employment and economic opportunities to unemployed BC youth, would be launched in November.
He directed officials to scrutinise applications transparently in the presence of district Collectors and select eligible beneficiaries.
He assured that pending bills of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (MJP) Gurukul institutions would be cleared soon. Responding to a request from Minister Ponnam Prabhakar for dedicated buildings for the institutions, he said the proposal would be examined.
Under the Overseas Scholarship scheme, ₹18.40 crore has been released this year as first and second instalments to 180 students. The deadline for submitting applications has been extended to October 15 to provide more eligible students an opportunity to apply.
The Deputy Chief Minister also assured that funds would be released soon for the construction of Atma Gaurav Bhavans for BC caste associations.
