Southern Command Clinches Overall Title at 3rd Corps of EME Sailing Regatta-2026
Hyderabad, June 23 (TNT): Southern Command emerged overall champions at the third edition of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) Sailing Regatta-2026, which concluded at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Tuesday.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant General Neeraj Varshney, AVSM, VSM, Commandant, Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME), Colonel Commandant of the Corps of EME and Commodore of the EME Sailing Association (EMESA).
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Varshney said the regatta was conceived to revive and strengthen sailing as a competitive sport within the Corps of EME while developing a pool of skilled sailors capable of representing the country at national, Asian and Olympic-level competitions.
He commended the enthusiastic participation of personnel from all ranks, particularly Agniveers, who displayed remarkable aptitude by mastering the sport within a short period of two to three weeks.
The General said the regatta would serve as a platform for identifying and nurturing sailing talent and act as a stepping stone for participation in prestigious events such as the ILCA Open Sailing Competition and Hyderabad Sailing Week.
In the ILCA-6 category, Agniveer Patil Anuraj secured the top position, while Sepoy Mahesh and Agniveer Patil Siddhesh finished second and third respectively.
In the ILCA-7 category, Agniveer Harsh Tiwari clinched first place. Lieutenant Colonel Mayank Srivastav secured the runner-up position, while Major Lanka Kiran finished third.
The regatta witnessed keen competition and showcased the growing interest in sailing among personnel of the Corps of EME, with organisers expressing confidence that several participants would go on to compete at higher levels in the sport.
