SCCL records 4 pc growth in coal transportation in H1
Hyderabad, Oct 1 (TNT): Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) transported 299.4 lakh tonnes of coal to consumers during the first half of the current financial year, registering a 4 per cent growth over the 287.6 lakh tonnes moved during the corresponding period last year.
The state-run coal mining company also increased supplies to thermal power plants in Telangana by 24.58 per cent during April-September, transporting 198.2 lakh tonnes compared with 159.1 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
The increased supplies were made in view of the state’s power requirements and as per the directions of the Telangana government, the Mining company said in a release on Thursday.
Coal supplies to Kothagudem Thermal Power Station rose 50.76 per cent to 39.8 lakh tonnes from 26.4 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
Similarly, supplies to Yadadri Thermal Power Station increased 57.67 per cent to 33.9 lakh tonnes from 21.5 lakh tonnes, while deliveries to Bhadradri Thermal Power Station at Manuguru rose 25.13 per cent to 24.4 lakh tonnes from 19.5 lakh tonnes.
SCCL transported 26.6 lakh tonnes of coal to Singareni Thermal Power Station, registering a 27.27 per cent growth.
Coal supplies to NTPC Telangana increased to 25.3 lakh tonnes from 19.4 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
Supplies to NTPC Ramagundam, however, stood at 42.7 lakh tonnes against 43.5 lakh tonnes in the first half of the previous financial year.
SCCL said it has taken special measures to enhance coal production and transportation in view of El Niño conditions and the need to prioritise Telangana’s power requirements.
The company is coordinating with power sector institutions and taking steps as per the directions of the state and central governments to ensure required coal supplies to thermal power plants.
SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti is reviewing coal production and transportation on a daily basis through interactions with general managers of all areas. Five senior officials have also been assigned special responsibility to monitor coal transportation to thermal power stations.
The company said meeting Telangana’s power requirements was being treated as a priority and that a larger share of its coal was being supplied to thermal power plants within the state.
Dr Jyoti said SCCL was moving ahead with a planned approach to achieve its annual targets of 620 lakh tonnes of coal production and 650 lakh tonnes of coal transportation.
