Reliance Industries, Rolls-Royce Announce Partnership Intent for Indigenous AMCA Combat Engine
London/Mumbai, Aug 14 (TNT): Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Rolls-Royce on Friday announced their strategic intent to partner on the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of a sovereign indigenous combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.
As part of the proposed partnership, the companies will explore setting up a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India as a centre of excellence for power and propulsion technology.
In a release, the companies said the proposed collaboration would combine Rolls-Royce’s engine technology and expertise with Reliance’s manufacturing, technology and execution capabilities to support the joint development of the AMCA engine in India.
The initiative is aimed at developing an end-to-end indigenous capability covering design, development, manufacturing, testing, production and through-life support of aero engines, according to the release.
Reliance Industries Executive Director Anant Ambani said the partnership would seek to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India and contribute to the country’s strategic autonomy and self-reliance in critical technologies.
Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgiç said the proposed collaboration would combine the company’s advanced engineering and engine expertise with Reliance’s industrial capabilities and mark a step towards building a self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in India.
The alliance could also open avenues for wider collaboration in defence, civil aerospace, and new power and propulsion systems, the release added.
