Ready for Special Session to Debate Performance of BRS, BJP and Congress Govts: CM Revanth Reddy
Nalgonda, June 28 (TNT) : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday challenged the opposition BRS and BJP to a special session of the State Legislature to debate the performance of the three governments, asserting that the Congress was prepared to face a discussion on its two-and-a-half years in office alongside the BRS’s decade-long rule in Telangana and the BJP-led Centre’s 12-year tenure.
Addressing a public meeting after laying foundation stones for a slew of development projects in Nalgonda, the Chief Minister said the government was ready to convene a special session of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council if the opposition parties submitted a request to the Assembly Speaker and Council Chairman.
“We are ready to discuss the performance and manifestos of the BJP, BRS and Congress in a special session. Let us settle the issue in the Assembly,” he said.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, Revanth Reddy said the project would be completed despite opposition from political parties.
He alleged that pollution in the Musi River was causing serious public health issues and warned that those creating obstacles to the project would face strict action.
Launching a sharp attack on the BRS leadership, the Chief Minister accused former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and senior leader T. Harish Rao of spreading misinformation against the Congress government.
He alleged that while BRS leaders had built lavish farmhouses, they had failed to provide houses for the poor during their ten years in power.
The Chief Minister claimed that the people of Telangana had rejected the BRS and asserted that the party had no political future in the state.
He also accused the previous government of neglecting the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project and assured that the Congress government would complete it.
Criticising the BRS for claiming credit for the Telangana movement, Revanth Reddy said several leaders and activists had sacrificed their lives for statehood, including Konda Laxman Bapuji, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Srikantha Chary, Constable Kishtaiah and Yadaiah, and that no single party could claim exclusive ownership of the movement.
Highlighting the Congress government’s welfare initiatives under the ‘Praja Palana’ programme, the Chief Minister said the government had waived farm loans, implemented Rythu Bharosa, distributed new ration cards, supplied fine rice to beneficiaries, sanctioned Indiramma houses, and provided 200 units of free electricity to eligible households.
He said the government had spent ₹1.56 lakh crore on farmers through various welfare measures, procured a record 80 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, provided 70,000 government jobs within 30 months, resolved the long-pending issue of Scheduled Caste categorisation and was modernising government schools to improve access to quality education.
Revanth Reddy also criticised the BRS over the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, alleging that despite an expenditure of around ₹1 lakh crore, the project had failed to deliver the intended benefits.
The Chief Minister announced that foundation stones had been laid for 6,300 km of Roads and Buildings Department roads at an estimated cost of ₹13,000 crore.
Expressing confidence about the Congress’ electoral prospects, he said the party would remain in power in Telangana until 2034 and asserted that the BRS had no future in the state.
