Poultry industry leaders propose Rs 110 per kg benchmark for live chicken
The proposal was discussed at a meeting organised by the All India Poultry Breeders Association (AIPBA), Pan India Breeders Association (PIBCC) and various State poultry associations in Hyderabad.
The meeting reviewed recent fluctuations in broiler prices, rising maize prices and the availability of feed ingredients, particularly in view of El Nino conditions and their possible impact on the poultry sector.
Participants attributed the recent decline in chicken prices largely to seasonal factors and reduced consumption during the festival period, and urged poultry stakeholders not to panic over temporary market fluctuations.
The industry representatives called for policy measures to reduce feed costs, including facilitating duty-free imports of non-genetically modified (non-GMO) maize.
They also stressed the need to utilise the adequate availability of soybean in the domestic market to support poultry feed production.
The participating associations decided to meet government representatives and policymakers in New Delhi later next week to discuss the sector’s concerns and seek policy interventions for market stabilisation and controlling input costs.
The meeting was attended by AIPBA Chairman Bahadur Ali, PIBCC Convenor Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Telangana Poultry Breeders Association President Dr A Tirupathi Reddy, Venkateshwara Hatcheries General Manager K G Anand, Shalimar Group of Companies Managing Director Sameer Agarwal, Suguna Foods Managing Director Vignesh Soundararajan and Premium Chick Feeds Pvt Ltd Co-founder Dr Girish Kolwankar, among others.
