Postal employee bodies hail transformation of India Post; thank Modi govt
New Delhi, Sept 14 (TNT): Representatives of All India employee organisations of the Department of Posts on Monday hailed the transformation of India Post into a modern, citizen-centric service network and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for expanding its role in public service delivery.
A delegation of employee representatives called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr Jitendra Singh, at Kartavya Bhawan here and discussed the transformation of postal services and various employee-related issues.
The representatives highlighted the expansion of India Post’s services over the past decade, including faster delivery, Aadhaar-related services, PAN and Passport Seva facilities, doorstep banking and digital pension services.
Dr Singh said the changing role of the postman reflected the transformation of India Post, with postal personnel increasingly delivering banking and other essential services directly to citizens.
He said the expansion of India Post Payments Bank and doorstep banking had helped take financial services to villages and households, while Digital Life Certificates had made pension-related services more accessible.
Recalling the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister said postal employees continued providing essential services during the nationwide lockdown, including delivering banking services and cash to citizens and transporting medical and protective supplies.
He said the Department of Posts’ extensive nationwide network was a valuable public-service asset that could be used more extensively for government programmes, citizen outreach and last-mile delivery.
The delegation raised issues relating to verification and recognition of employee organisations, representation in departmental forums, pensioners, service benefits and certain long-pending service matters.
Dr Singh said matters requiring examination would be considered through the appropriate administrative process, keeping in view applicable rules and legal and financial implications.
The delegation thanked the Minister for the interaction and for providing an opportunity to raise their service-related issues.
