PM Modi leaves for Seychelles to attend Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations

New Delhi, June 27 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday left for a three-day State visit to Seychelles at the invitation of President Dr Patrick Herminie to participate as the Guest of Honour at the country’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations.

Ahead of his departure, Modi described Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and its engagement with the Global South.

Noting that India and Seychelles are marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, the Prime Minister said the partnership is founded on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity and strong people-to-people ties.

Referring to President Herminie’s State visit to India in February, Modi said he looked forward to holding discussions to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance security, prosperity and development in the Indian Ocean region.

During the visit, Modi will become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles, a step he said reflects the shared democratic values and parliamentary traditions of the two countries.

The Prime Minister also said he looked forward to interacting with the Indian community in Seychelles, describing it as a living bridge that has strengthened bilateral friendship for generations.

Expressing confidence that the visit would further deepen the longstanding partnership, Modi said it would enhance maritime cooperation and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
