PM Modi increased country’s debt burden, alleges Telangana CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad, July 30 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the rise in the country’s debt burden, alleging that the Centre’s borrowings have increased significantly since 2014.
Addressing the Exposure programme held in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister claimed that the total debt accumulated by governments from Independence till 2014 stood at ₹50 lakh crore, while the debt added between 2014 and 2026 amounted to ₹151 lakh crore.
Revanth Reddy also recalled the contributions of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in strengthening the education and irrigation sectors, stating that educational institutions and irrigation projects laid the foundation for national development.
He highlighted Nehru’s vision of treating irrigation projects as “modern temples” and said the initiatives taken by earlier leaders played a key role in the country’s progress.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the contribution of former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao in introducing residential schools, which later inspired the expansion of institutions like Navodaya Vidyalayas.
Revanth Reddy said the Telangana government’s focus was on providing quality education along with nutritious food and developing students with the skills needed to compete globally.
“Let us transform our government educational institutions into world-class destinations,” he said, calling for collective efforts to build a stronger future for the younger generation.
