Panel begins scrutiny of Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crimes Bill
Hyderabad, Aug 1 (TNT): The Selection Committee constituted to examine the Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2026 held its first meeting on Saturday and initiated scrutiny of the proposed legislation before submitting its report to the Legislative Assembly.
The meeting, held in the Speaker’s Chamber at the Telangana Legislative Assembly, was attended by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Selection Committee Chairman and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, committee members Danam Nagender, Kova Lakshmi, Gavinolla Madhusudan Reddy, Thota Lakshmikantha Rao, Kavvampalli Satyanarayana, Mamidala Yashaswini, Koneti Manik Rao, Koonamneni Sambasiva Rao and Ahmed Bin Abdul Balala. Legislative Council Secretary Dr V. Narasimha Charyulu and Legislative Assembly Secretary Rendla Tirupati were also present.
Addressing the meeting, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar said the Assembly had entrusted the committee with the responsibility of examining the Bill in detail and submitting a report with suitable recommendations to the House. He expressed confidence that the committee would discharge its responsibility impartially through comprehensive scrutiny and constructive deliberations.
Ponnam Prabhakar said the committee would examine all aspects of the proposed legislation and evolve its recommendations through consensus.
Stating that the panel comprised experienced members, he said it would hold regular meetings and submit its report to the Speaker at the earliest.
The proposed Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2026 was referred to the Selection Committee by the Legislative Assembly for detailed examination before further consideration by the House.
