Hyd: GITAM confers degrees on 1,990 students at 17th graduation ceremony
Hyderabad, Aug 1 (TNT): GITAM (Deemed to be University), Hyderabad, on Saturday conferred degrees on 1,990 students, including 86 Ph.D. scholars, at its 17th Graduation Ceremony, with acclaimed filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli calling upon graduates to pursue excellence through dedication, passion and hard work.
A total of 1,532 undergraduate, 372 postgraduate and 86 doctoral students received degrees across various disciplines.
In his keynote address on the occasion, Rajamouli, urged the graduating students to strive for excellence in their chosen fields, recalling the philosophy of GITAM founder Dr M.V.V.S. Murthi.
He asked them to pursue every endeavour with commitment and purpose.
The ceremony was presided over by GITAM President and Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Errol D’Souza.
The dignitaries paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and GITAM founder Dr M.V.V.S. Murthi before the commencement of the programme.
The university conferred the honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) on noted handloom weaver Gajam Govardhana in recognition of his contribution to handloom weaving and the preservation of India’s textile heritage.
Seventeen gold medals were presented to students for academic excellence. Digudadi Pranav Rahul of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering received the President’s Gold Medal for securing the highest overall rank among B.Tech. graduates.
The university also conferred doctoral degrees on 86 research scholars.
The Best Researcher Awards were presented to Dr Mohd. Arshad Ansari, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Prof. M.S. Surendra Babu, Professor, Department of Chemistry, GITAM School of Science.
In his presidential address, Sribharat congratulated the graduating students and outlined seven guiding principles for success, including dreaming big, believing in oneself, surrounding oneself with the right people, remaining committed to one’s goals, continuous learning, humility and keeping one’s word.
Presenting the annual report, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. D.S. Rao highlighted the university’s achievements and reiterated its commitment to excellence in education, research and innovation while nurturing socially responsible leaders.
The graduates also took the graduation pledge, reaffirming their commitment to ethical values, professional integrity and nation-building.
Registrar Dr D. Gunasekaran proposed the vote of thanks.
