Kakinada traffic police launch special drive against cell phone driving
Kakinada, Sept 25 (TNT): Traffic police have launched a special drive against driving while using mobile phones and imposed fines on violators as part of efforts to improve road safety in the city, police said on Friday.
The drive was conducted at Balaji Cheruvu Junction under the instructions of Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav.
Traffic Police One Town Station Inspector N Ramesh, along with RSI Satyanarayana, intercepted two-wheeler riders and imposed fines on those found using mobile phones while driving and riding without helmets.
A majority of those caught using mobile phones while riding were youngsters, particularly women, police said.
Cases were also registered against motorists for triple riding and using modified silencers.
Inspector Ramesh and his team counselled two-wheeler riders on traffic rules and regulations and sensitised them about the need to follow road safety norms for their own safety as well as that of other road users.
The police also informed motorists about the Good Samaritan scheme, under which a person who promptly assists and ensures timely hospitalisation of a road accident victim can receive a cash reward of Rs 25,000 from the District Collector.
The special drive would continue for a few more days, Inspector Ramesh said, urging motorists to cooperate with the police and strictly follow traffic rules.
