Kakinada Traffic police fine 110 vehicles for irregular number plates
Kakinada, Aug 20 (TNT): Kakinada Traffic Police on Thursday launched a special drive against vehicles displaying irregular number plates or plying without number plates and identified 110 such vehicles.
The drive was conducted under the instructions of SP Bindu Madhav.
Traffic Two Town Police Inspector D Ramarao and his team imposed fines on the violators and replaced the irregular number plates with plates of the prescribed size in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act.
Additional SP Dr Mahanti Kishore Kumar, who supervised the operation, counselled vehicle owners and drivers on the importance of using number plates conforming to prescribed standards.
He warned that changing the size of number plates or letters and numbers, using fancy designs, displaying individual designations or names and putting up unauthorised stickers were offences.
He said number plates should be clearly visible and readable from a reasonable distance and should not be deliberately altered, concealed or replaced.
Kumar said the use of wrong or concealed number plates could make it difficult for police to trace vehicles involved in crimes.
He noted that offenders, including chain-snatchers, sometimes use stolen vehicles with incorrect number plates while committing offences.
Inspector D Ramarao, Sub-Inspectors B Rajesh Kumar, MSN Raju, A Satyanarayana and P Satyanarayana and other police personnel participated in the special drive.
