Kakinada: Govt Hospital Contract Workers Stage Protest , Demand Rs 34,000 Minimum Wage

Kakinada, Oct. 16 (TNT): Security and sanitation workers at the Government General Hospital here on Friday  staged a dharna , demanding a minimum monthly wage of ₹34,000 and implementation of the equal pay for equal work principle.

The protest was organised under the leadership of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) in response to a call given by the AP Medical Contract Employees and Workers Union.

Addressing the protesters, AITUC state leader Thatipaka Madhu alleged that the government was treating contract and outsourced employees like bonded labour without ensuring their job security or future welfare.

He said workers were facing severe financial difficulties due to low wages and demanded better remuneration, job security and social security benefits.

He called for implementation of the minimum wage of ₹34,000 under Government Order No. 138 and regularisation of contract and outsourcing employees.

Madhu warned that the agitation would continue and be intensified until the demands were met.

AITUC district general secretary Thokala Prasad demanded action against contract agencies for allegedly failing to pay minimum wages as prescribed under GO No. 138 and provide provident fund (PF) and Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) benefits.

He called for cheating cases to be registered against agencies found violating the provisions.

AITUC district president Kishore, Government General Hospital Workers Union president Ramayya, general secretary Anil, and leaders Madhu, Anuradha and Lakshmi led the protest.
