Kakinada Collector Launches ‘Operation Clean Sweep’ for City Beautification
Kakinada, May 23 (TNT) : District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad on Saturday called upon people to actively participate in the city beautification drive.
Addrressing after inaugurating the ‘ Operation Clean Sweep” programme along along with MLC Karri Padma Sri and Kakinada City MLA Kondababu, at Gandhi Park here, he said campaign aimed at maintaining cleanliness across municipalities, nagar panchayats and the Kakinada Municipal Corporation limits.
Harendhira Prasad said the programme would continue in campaign mode for the next four weeks and stressed that public participation was crucial for its success.
He observed that lasting change in sanitation could be achieved only if citizens also took responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.
Pointing out that there were only 7,800 sanitation workers in the city, the Collector urged residents not to throw garbage on roads and to maintain cleanliness around their homes.
He advised people to segregate household waste into wet and dry categories and store them in separate bins for collection by municipal staff.
The Collector said citizens should accord the same importance to the cleanliness of streets and public spaces as they do to personal hygiene and neatness.
MLC Karri Padma Sri said society would receive back what it gives to nature and called upon people to work towards building a clean and plastic-free society.
Kakinada City MLA Kondababu appealed to citizens to unite for the beautification of Kakinada and make the city free from waterlogging and submersion issues.
Earlier, the Collector, MLC and MLA garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Park and administered a Swachhata pledge to participants.
Municipal Commissioner NVV Satyanarayana, Additional Commissioner Sudhakar, Health Officer Dr Prudhwicharan and a large number of local residents attended the programme.
