Kakinada advocates demand legislation for protection, welfare measures

Kakinada, July 17 (TNT): Advocates in Kakinada on Friday took out a procession demanding enactment of special legislation for their protection and implementation of various welfare measures.

A large number of lawyers marched from the Kakinada Bar Association to the Collectorate, raising slogans in support of their demands.

Led by Bar Association president Yelchuri Subrahmanyam, the advocates submitted a memorandum to the Collector seeking immediate action.

The main demand of the advocates was the introduction and implementation of a special law to ensure protection for members of the legal profession.

They also sought that the state government provide health cards to all advocates, extend financial assistance of ₹10,000 per month to junior advocates for five years, and sanction house sites for lawyers.

Senior advocates, junior lawyers and women advocates participated in the protest in large numbers.

The agitation was organised by the Indian Lawyers Association, Kakinada district branch.
