Indiramma houses to come up in residential areas within CURE zone: Telangana CM
Hyderabad, July 24 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday directed officials to ensure that Indiramma Housing colonies in the Core Urban Region (CURE) are developed within residential areas, stressing that beneficiaries should have easy access to employment and livelihood opportunities.
Reviewing the implementation of the Indiramma Urban Housing Scheme here, the Chief Minister instructed officials to identify unused government lands belonging to various departments within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits for the construction of housing colonies.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the availability of government land across several Assembly constituencies.
It was decided to utilise surplus lands belonging to the Police, Revenue and Transport departments for the scheme, while providing those departments with alternative land elsewhere.
Revanth Reddy observed that housing projects located far from residential areas had remained unoccupied in the past because they deprived residents of access to jobs and essential services.
He directed officials to prioritise construction of Indiramma houses near workplaces and within existing residential neighbourhoods to ensure beneficiaries do not lose their means of livelihood.
The government has announced plans to construct Indiramma houses across several constituencies in the CURE area. Each flat will have a built-up area of about 528 square feet with a carpet area of around 400 square feet. While the estimated construction cost of each unit is about ₹11 lakh, the government will provide a subsidy of ₹5 lakh, with beneficiaries contributing the remaining ₹6 lakh. The cost of land will be borne entirely by the government.
In the first phase, the government plans to construct 7,680 flats across 17 Assembly constituencies. These include Rajendranagar, Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam, Malkajgiri, Nampally, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Karwan, Bahadurpura, Amberpet, Kukatpally, Medchal, Quthbullapur, Sanathnagar, Secunderabad Cantonment and Malakpet.
The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the identification of unused government land in these constituencies to facilitate early implementation of the project.
Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, Roads and Buildings Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, Director General of Police C.V. Anand, Principal Secretaries to the Chief Minister N. Sridhar and V. Seshadri, Revenue Secretary Lokesh Kumar, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad, Housing Special Secretary V.P. Gautham, Hyderabad District Collector Priyanka Ala and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
