India, Seychelles Sign MoU to Boost Cooperation in Agricultural Research

New Delhi, July 1 (TNT): The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Agriculture Department under the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Blue Economy of the Republic of Seychelles have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agricultural research and education.

The agreement was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the Republic of Seychelles, an official release said here on Wednesday.

The MoU aims to enhance collaboration in agricultural research, education, capacity building and technology transfer.

It provides a framework for joint research programmes, exchange of scientists, researchers and students, and sharing of advanced agricultural technologies and best practices.

To operationalise the agreement, both sides also signed a five-year Work Plan (2026–2031) focusing on climate-smart agriculture, horticulture, post-harvest management, livestock development, and sustainable food and nutritional security.

The collaboration seeks to strengthen institutional linkages, improve agricultural productivity, build technical capacity and promote sustainable agricultural development while addressing emerging challenges such as climate change and food security.

ICAR said it has signed more than 100 Memoranda of Understanding with partner institutions worldwide and that the agreement with Seychelles further reinforces India’s engagement with the Global South and its commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, innovation and global food and nutritional security through international cooperation.
