Hyundai’s Rs 8,528-Cr R&D Centre at Zaheerabad to Be Ready for Groundbreaking in Coming Months
Hyderabad, Oct. 16 (TNT): Hyundai Motor India Engineering’s proposed ₹8,528-crore Global Innovation R&D Centre and mega test facility at Zaheerabad in Telangana’s Sangareddy district is expected to be ready for groundbreaking in the next few months, the company’s Managing Director Changyeon Cho said on Friday.
The proposed facility, spread across 678 acres in the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ), carries an employment commitment of 4,276 jobs.
Cho conveyed the project’s progress during a meeting between a Hyundai delegation and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Bodhi Pavilion.
The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite pending approvals and extend the necessary support to facilitate the project.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy invited Hyundai Motors to establish a car manufacturing facility in Telangana, assuring the company of all possible assistance from the state government.
He said Telangana was well-positioned to attract automobile manufacturing investments, citing its central location, transport connectivity and industrial infrastructure.
Hyderabad’s established engineering ecosystem and quality of life also made it an attractive destination for global companies, he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted plans to develop dedicated mobility clusters and promote industrial expansion through spatial development frameworks such as the Peri-Urban Region (PURE).
The proposed Zaheerabad facility is expected to strengthen Hyundai’s research, engineering, testing and validation capabilities. The company has maintained a presence in Hyderabad for around two decades, with its Hitec City facility serving as a major research and development centre for advanced vehicle engineering.
The project follows investment discussions held during the World Economic Forum in 2024, when a delegation led by Revanth Reddy met Hyundai representatives to explore investment opportunities in Telangana.
In June 2025, the state Cabinet sub-committee on industrial and investment promotion approved the company’s proposal to establish the R&D centre.
Revanth Reddy also outlined the state’s vision for Bharat Future City and invited the Hyundai leadership to participate in the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026.
Cho said Hyundai’s plans to strengthen Hyderabad as a global technology and advanced engineering hub aligned with the Telangana Rising 2047 vision. The company would continue to contribute to the state’s growth, he added.
Ramakrishna Rao, Advisor and Ex-officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sangareddy Collector Prateek Jain and other senior officials attended the meeting.
