Hyderabad Traffic Police registers six cases against vehicles with fake number plates
Hyderabad, July 24 (TNT): The Hyderabad Traffic Police has launched a special enforcement drive against vehicles using fake, tampered and unauthorised registration number plates following an increase in citizen complaints, police said on Friday.
During the ongoing crackdown, six criminal cases were registered over the past week against individuals allegedly using fraudulent registration plates to conceal vehicle identities, evade traffic enforcement and violate motor vehicle regulations.
Police identified and seized multiple vehicles during the drive, with cases registered at Jubilee Hills, Malakpet, Begumbazar, Abids and Kachiguda police stations under different Law and Order jurisdictions.
The Traffic Police warned vehicle owners against using altered number plates, missing digits or temporary stickers, stating that only government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally permitted.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards fraudulent registration practices, the department said violations would attract criminal prosecution and immediate seizure of vehicles.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad City, D. Joel Davis, IPS, appealed to vehicle owners to strictly adhere to prescribed registration plate norms and traffic regulations.
He said enforcement drives would continue across the city in a sustained and systematic manner to ensure lawful road usage, enhance public safety and prevent misuse of vehicles.
