Hyderabad Police issue notice to Union Minister Bandi Sanjay’s son in POCSO case
Hyderabad, May 12 (TNT): Police have issued notices directing Bandi Sai Bhagirath, son of Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar, to appear for questioning on Wednesday at Pet Basheerabad Police Station under the Cyberabad Commissionerate in connection with a case registered under the POCSO Act.
Police also served notices to Bhagirath’s maternal uncle, Vamshi Krishna, asking him to produce Bhagirath before the investigating officer for inquiry.
The notices were sent to Vamshi Krishna, a resident of Karimnagar.
The case has drawn widespread public attention across the state.
Meanwhile, Bhagirath approached the Telangana High Court seeking interim bail.
The petition is likely to come up for hearing in the next two days.
According to police, Bhagirath had lodged a complaint at a police station in Karimnagar on May 8 against a minor girl and her parents.
On the same day, the girl’s mother filed a complaint at Pet Basheerabad Police Station under the Cyberabad Commissionerate against Bhagirath and BJP leader Sangappa, seeking registration of a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Following examination of the evidence, police registered a case against Bhagirath under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act.
Police said that based on the statement of the victim, the sections of law were altered to Section 5(1) read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, in addition to Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following directions from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand reportedly entrusted supervision of the investigation to Kukatpally DCP Rithiraj, following which the inquiry was expedited.
In the notice issued by the Inspector of Police, Pet Basheerabad Police Station, Bhagirath and his uncle were instructed to appear before the investigating officer by 2 pm on May 13 for the purpose of inquiry and investigation, failing which legal action would be initiated in accordance with law.
