Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Arrest 49 in Nationwide Crackdown, Recover Rs 98.89 Lakh
Hyderabad, Aug. 7 (TNT): Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested 49 persons across 15 States in connection with 25 cybercrime cases during July 2026 and facilitated the recovery of ₹98.89 lakh to victims, as part of a nationwide crackdown on cyber fraud networks.
According to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes & SIT), the Cyber Crime Police Station received multiple complaints through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and registered 70 FIRs during the month.
The arrested persons were involved in trading fraud (29), social media fraud (5), digital arrest scams (3), WhatsApp display picture (DP) fraud (3), matrimonial fraud (2) and one case each of APK fraud, crypto trading impersonation, investment fraud, job fraud, POCSO-related offences and old coin purchase fraud.
The accused were arrested from Telangana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
Police seized 25 debit cards, 23 mobile phones, nine cheque books, seven passbooks, five rubber stamps, three laptops, two PAN cards, two rental agreements, a UAE Resident Identity Card, a credit card and a passport during the operations.
Trading fraud accounted for the highest financial loss, with victims losing ₹11.75 crore in 25 cases. Overall, ₹98.89 lakh was refunded to victims in 38 cases involving an aggregate fraud amount of ₹13.87 crore, police said.
Meanwhile, the city’s Zonal Cyber Cells received 2,059 NCRP complaints, registered 298 FIRs, arrested six persons in five cases and facilitated refunds of ₹27.09 lakh during July.
As part of its Cyber Patrol initiative, police identified and removed 128 Facebook and Instagram profiles that were running paid advertisements promoting online child exploitation, fake investment schemes and multi-level marketing frauds using referral links and deepfake videos. One FIR was registered against a promoter.
Police said cumulative cyber patrol operations have resulted in the removal of 1,086 social media profiles and 2,553 paid online advertisements, besides registration of nine FIRs against those involved.
Under the C-Mitra initiative, officials made 1,537 awareness calls to victims and registered 231 Zero FIRs.
Highlighting a major detection, police said they arrested an accused in a ₹25 lakh trading fraud case in which fraudsters impersonated a representative of Bhoomi Bio Products Pvt. Ltd. by cloning a WhatsApp profile and induced the company’s accounts section to transfer funds through RTGS.
The Cyber Crime Police also advised citizens to remain vigilant against fake investment schemes, malicious APK files, WhatsApp impersonation, digital arrest scams and fake profiles of government officials seeking money.
It urged victims to report cyber fraud immediately by calling the national helpline 1930 or through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
