HSL, AP Govt Discuss Greenfield Shipyards, Maritime Development in state
Visakhapatnam, Aug. 6 (TNT): Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) and the Andhra Pradesh Government on Thursday discussed a roadmap for developing the state’s maritime sector, with a focus on establishing greenfield shipyards at Machilipatnam and Dugarajapatnam.
The proposals came up during a meeting between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and HSL Chairman and Managing Director Rear Admiral Chandrasekharan Raghuram (Retd.), according to an official statement.
The proposed shipyards are expected to enhance HSL’s shipbuilding capacity, strengthen India’s maritime self-reliance and support the state’s long-term maritime development strategy.
The statement said the projects have the potential to generate around 18 lakh man-days of employment across shipbuilding, ship repair, logistics and ancillary industries, while creating skill development opportunities for the state’s youth.
The proposed expansion is also expected to create business opportunities worth more than Rs. 2,000 crore for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in fabrication, components, outfitting and supply chains.
The discussions also covered the development of an integrated blue economy ecosystem to attract strategic investments and position Andhra Pradesh as a major maritime hub.
