HGA seeks more professional golf events in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Oct 7 (TNT): The Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA) on Wednesday sought a wider partnership with the AM Green IGPL to bring more professional golf tournaments to Hyderabad, as the city hosts the Krishna Invitational 2026 AM Green IGPL presented by Punjab Raptors at the Hyderabad Golf Club.
The Hyderabad leg of the tournament is being held from October 7 to 10 and is hosted by Krishna Punjab Raptors GC.
It is the first of two IGPL legs scheduled in the city this season and the ninth of 15 events on the 2026 calendar.
Addressing a press conference here, HGA President Bhaskar Reddy said the association was keen to work with IGPL to bring more professional events to its course and further promote golf in Hyderabad and Telangana.
He said the HGA was upgrading its course by adding two holes and bringing in an international maintenance firm and professional course maintenance personnel to improve playing conditions and attract golfers from India and abroad.
AM Green IGPL CEO Uttam Singh Mundy said the association with HGA began in 2024 through sponsorship of the Telangana Golconda Masters and expressed willingness to strengthen the partnership.
The AM Green IGPL conducted 11 events in 2025, including two international events in Dubai and Sri Lanka, while its 2026 calendar has expanded to 15 events, including tournaments in Mauritius, South Africa and Congo. Men and women professionals compete in the same field for equal prize money.
Mr Mundy said the tour also provides emerging professionals with pathways to higher-level opportunities, including the Asian Tour, and that hosting bigger events in India would provide players greater exposure and experience.
The HGA also plans to collaborate with IGPL on programmes to encourage more children to take up golf. The association already runs a schoolchildren’s programme and has supported young golfers from government schools.
HGA Committee Member Sandeep Rathi said the association’s facilities and initiatives that allow young golfers to learn from professionals could help encourage more children to pursue golf as a career.
The IGPL also works with the Indian Golf Union, Women’s Golf Association of India, Professional Golfers Association of India and The Golf Foundation. Its Golf on Wheels programme takes the sport to schools to introduce children to golf.
