HDFC Bank educates 1.8 lakh citizens across India through 8,800 cyber fraud awareness workshops
Mumbai, Oct 22 (TNT) : Private sector lender HDFC Bank on Thursday announced that it has educated over 1.8 lakh citizens across the country on digital safety by conducting more than 8,800 workshops under its nationwide ‘Cyber Fraud Suraksha’ campaign.
Organized between July and October 2026, the four-month awareness drive aimed to sensitize customers and the general public to emerging financial cybercrime trends, foster safe digital banking habits, and strengthen the broader financial ecosystem against fraud, the Bank said in a release.
The interactive outreach targeted a wide demographic, including school and college students, senior citizens, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), corporate workforces, self-help groups, community forums, and bank personnel.
Using case studies, instructional videos, and real-life scenarios, the sessions demystified the modus operandi behind prevalent scams such as ‘digital arrests’, fraudulent high-yield investment schemes, fake recruitment offers, malicious APK downloads, and deceitful QR code scans.
The campaign also leveraged the bank’s secure banking initiative, ‘Vigil Aunty’, to instruct users on online shopping hygiene and warn against disclosing credentials such as OTPs, CVVs, card numbers, or UPI PINs.
“Cybercrime is a serious threat, and a lack of awareness often causes people to fall victim to cyber frauds,” said Manish Agrawal, Senior Executive Vice President (Credit Intelligence and Control) at HDFC Bank.
“The objective of this campaign was to educate participants on the various modus operandi used by fraudsters and the secure banking practices they should follow, so that they stay vigilant, recognize fraudulent patterns, and avoid falling prey to such scams,” Agarwal added.
The lender urged citizens to maintain vigilance during digital transactions, contact their home branches immediately if compromised, and report incidents promptly to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal helpline at 1930.
