HCG Vizag, NSRIT Students Organise Flash Mob to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

Visakhapatnam, Oct 27 (TNT): Healthcare Global Speciality Hospital (HCG), Visakhapatnam, in association with students of NSRIT College, organised a flash mob on October 25 to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

Around 40 students participated in the public health initiative as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the need to overcome social stigma surrounding cancer and encouraging women to undergo timely health screenings.

The programme emphasised the importance of early diagnosis and preventive screening, including mammography for breast cancer and cervical cancer screening.

Dr Prasad I. P., Chief Operating Officer of HCG Oncology, Visakhapatnam, said cancer treatment must be complemented by greater public awareness about early detection.

He stressed the need to create an environment in which women feel comfortable seeking medical advice and undergoing screening without fear or hesitation.

He said sustained cooperation among healthcare institutions, educational institutions and communities was essential to overcome social inhibitions and promote preventive healthcare.

Dr Gunturu Indira, Radiation Oncologist, said lack of awareness and delayed diagnosis continued to pose challenges in cancer care.

Public awareness initiatives involving young people could help normalise discussions on women’s health and encourage families to prioritise preventive check-ups, she said.

She also emphasised the importance of timely screening, including mammograms and Pap tests, in detecting cancer at an early stage.

As part of its community outreach initiative, HCG Vizag offered basic blood and blood sugar checks at the venue.

Participating students were presented with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their contribution to health awareness.
