Government schools key to rebuilding Telangana: CM Revanth Reddy
Kothakota (Wanaparthy Dist.) July 15 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said the state government is according top priority to strengthening government schools, asserting that public educational institutions have a crucial role in the reconstruction of Telangana.
After inaugurating a new girls’ high school building here, the Chief Minister said student enrolment in government schools had declined over the years due to inadequate infrastructure and alleged that the previous government had neglected the sector.
He said the government first completed teachers’ transfers and promotions before taking up infrastructure development in schools.
Expressing concern that Telangana currently ranks 18th in the country in the education sector, Revanth Reddy said the government’s objective is to place the state among the top two in education.
The Chief Minister said education shapes the future of students and society, adding that he retained the education portfolio after assuming office as he believes Telangana’s future lies in its classrooms.
Alleging that the previous government had failed to fulfil the aspirations of those who fought for statehood, he said the Congress government is committed to rebuilding Telangana in line with the vision of the martyrs.
He said the government is spending ₹1.08 lakh per student annually on education.
Highlighting initiatives to improve employability, Revanth Reddy said Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are being upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) to prepare youth for employment opportunities, including blue-collar jobs in countries such as Germany and Japan.
He said the government also aims to distribute ‘Young India Kits’ to 27.5 lakh students by Independence Day.
Recalling that he himself studied in government educational institutions before becoming Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy assured students excelling in sports of government support and urged teachers to identify and nurture talent at the grassroots level.
