Google AI hub to be growth engine for India, says AP CM Naidu
Visakhapatnam, Apr 28 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said the proposed Google Cloud AI Hub in Visakhapatnam would act as a “growth engine” for the country and mark the beginning of a new technological era in the state.
Addressing after laying foundation stone for a Google Cloud AI Hub here , Naidu described the project as a game changer for both Visakhapatnam and Andhra Pradesh, adding that the $15 billion investment would make it one of the largest data centres in Asia.
The Chief Minister Naidu said the project would position Andhra Pradesh as a gateway for AI data in India and generate large-scale employment opportunities for youth, particularly in North Andhra, which he said would transform from a region of migration into a hub attracting global talent.
He credited IT Minister Nara Lokesh for playing a key role in bringing the project to the state and acknowledged the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He added that companies such as the Adani Group and Bharti Airtel would contribute to the swift execution of the project.
The Chief Minister said the data centre is targeted for completion by September 2028, with the government committed to providing all necessary support, including water supply from the Godavari river within 60 days.
Highlighting broader infrastructure plans, Naidu said Visakhapatnam is being developed into a global city, with key projects including the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport and the proposed South Coastal Railway Zone, for which a notification is expected from June 1.
He also said the Polavaram project is targeted for completion by 2027 and noted that agreements have already been signed for 90 GW of green energy production in the state.
