GMR Hyderabad Intl Airport Launches Cargo Terminal 2 at Hyderabad Airport
Hyderabad, May 18 (TNT): GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) on Monday announced the commissioning of Cargo Terminal 2 at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, marking a major expansion of Hyderabad’s air cargo and logistics infrastructure.
The new cargo terminal, spread across 16,864 square metres, has been designed to cater to growing domestic and international cargo demand and strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a global logistics and pharmaceutical cargo hub.
The terminal will initially handle around 50,000 metric tonnes of cargo annually, with provision to expand capacity to 100,000 metric tonnes per annum in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Kadhir Kadhiravan, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd said the launch as a defining milestone for Hyderabad’s emergence as a leading air cargo gateway in Asia.
“The commissioning of Cargo Terminal 2 is not simply an addition to our infrastructure portfolio — it is a statement of intent. We have built the new terminal to serve demanding cargo verticals, from pharmaceuticals to time-critical express consignments, with precision, speed and reliability,” he said.
Sanjiv Edward, CEO ,GMR Aero Cargo & Logistics, said the facility would strengthen India’s air logistics ecosystem and support businesses with world-class cargo infrastructure.
The terminal includes dedicated inbound and outbound cargo zones, export and import processing areas, multi-level racking systems, and build-up and breakdown zones enabling parallel shipment processing.
A major feature of the facility is its temperature-controlled pharmaceutical zone designed for handling pharma and perishable cargo. Equipped with advanced temperature monitoring and cold-chain infrastructure, the terminal aims to support Hyderabad’s growing role as a global pharmaceutical manufacturing and export hub.
GHIAL said the terminal would also help streamline cargo processing, accelerate regulatory clearances and reduce cargo dwell times through enhanced airside-landside connectivity and dedicated road access.
The facility incorporates several sustainability features, including energy-efficient lighting systems, optimised HVAC infrastructure, insulation within temperature-controlled areas and resource-efficient construction materials.
The cargo terminal is also equipped with a multi-level fire detection and alarm system to ensure high safety standards for cargo operations, infrastructure and personnel.
