Future-Ready CFOs Must Lead Strategic Transformation, Says Telangana CM’s Advisor
Hyderabad, July 31 (TNT): Finance leaders must move beyond traditional financial management and emerge as strategic architects of enterprise transformation, speakers emphasised at the 8th Edition of the CII Telangana CFO Conclave held here on Friday.
Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Telangana on the theme “The Future-Ready CFO: Navigating Disruption | Driving Intelligence | Shaping Tomorrow,” the conclave brought together policymakers, industry leaders, CFOs and business strategists to deliberate on the evolving role of finance leadership in an era of artificial intelligence, digital transformation and geopolitical uncertainty.
Addressing the conclave as the chief guest, K. Ramakrishna Rao, Advisor and Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Government of Telangana, said the role of a Chief Financial Officer was no longer confined to managing finances but extended to preparing organisations for future challenges.
“The expectation of a CFO is not merely to respond to change, but to prepare the organisation before change happens,” he said.
Highlighting Telangana’s growth from a Rs 60,000 crore Budget to Rs 2.4 lakh crore, and the state’s vision of becoming a USD 3 trillion economy by 2047, Rao urged finance leaders to evolve from process managers into strategic decision-makers.
“Machines will always do the arithmetic; the question is whether we will do the thinking,” he remarked, stressing that judgment, foresight, adoption of artificial intelligence and talent development would define future-ready enterprises.
P. R. Ramesh, Independent Director and former Chairman of Deloitte India, said the CFO had emerged as one of the most influential positions in any organisation, responsible not only for financial stewardship but also for shaping long-term business strategy.
He urged finance leaders to balance short-term performance with long-term value creation while embracing artificial intelligence, sustainability and regulatory compliance.
“Don’t look in the rear-view mirror while driving your business—look ahead,” he said.
M. V. Narasimham, Convenor of the CII Telangana Finance and Taxation Panel and CFO of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd, said the future-ready CFO was expected not only to protect businesses but also to position them for future opportunities.
He observed that while technology could generate data, competitive advantage would come from converting insights into strategic action and sustainable value creation.
Gaurav Maheshwari, Vice Chairman, CII Telangana, and Managing Director of Signode India Ltd, said the CFO’s role had expanded beyond managing numbers to forecasting the future and providing strategic direction.
“No major business strategy is decided today without the advice of the CFO,” he said, calling upon finance leaders to embrace continuous learning, foresight and innovation.
The conclave witnessed participation from senior government officials, CFOs, CEOs, finance professionals, policymakers, academicians and industry experts.
Discussions focused on AI-driven finance, strategic leadership, digital transformation, risk management and building future-ready finance functions capable of navigating an increasingly dynamic business environment.
