Five SCCL mines secure Centre’s 5-Star rating
Hyderabad, July 10 (TNT): Five mines of The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) have secured the prestigious 5-Star Rating under the National Coal Mine Rating Programme of the Ministry of Coal for the assessment year 2024-25, marking the company’s best-ever performance.
According to the Ministry of Coal, RK Newtech and RK-6 mines in the Srirampur Area, JVR OC-II in the Sathupalli Area, Khairiguda Open Cast in the Bellampalli Area and RG OC-I in the Ramagundam-III Area were selected for the highest rating.
Of the 382 coal mines that participated in the national rating programme, only 50 mines secured the 5-Star Rating, including five from SCCL, the state-owned mining company said in a release here on Friday.
The company had received four 5-Star ratings in the previous assessment.
The Coal Controller Organisation (CCO), under the Ministry of Coal, evaluates mines on scientific mining practices, safety, environmental protection, workers’ welfare, operational efficiency and development of nearby villages through 50 performance parameters. Mines scoring above 90 per cent after field verification are awarded the 5-Star Rating.
Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu congratulated the management, officers, employees and workers of the award-winning mines for the achievement.
He said the recognition reflected SCCL’s commitment to safe and scientific mining, employee welfare, environmental protection and uninterrupted coal production, and expressed confidence that more Singareni mines would achieve the 5-Star Rating in the coming years.
SCCL officials said the recognition underscored the company’s focus on operational excellence and sustainable mining practices.
In addition to the five 5-Star mines, 17 other SCCL mines received the 4-Star Rating, recognising their high standards of performance after scoring between 80 and 90 per cent.
