BRAOU holds awareness programme on responsible use of AI
Hyderabad, July 10 (TNT): Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) on Friday organised an awareness programme on “Responsible Usage of Artificial Intelligence”, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani calling on faculty members to equip themselves with AI skills to better prepare students for a technology-driven future.
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Prof. Chakrapani said artificial intelligence had become an integral part of society and stressed that teachers should have a strong understanding of AI to effectively impart knowledge to students.
He said the university had established dedicated AI laboratories to promote AI learning and urged faculty members to adapt to changing market demands, acquire modern knowledge and stay updated with technological advancements.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Srinivas Gujju, Senior Director, Intelligent Automation and Finance Transformation, said AI would not eliminate jobs but would instead create new employment opportunities for those who learn to use the technology effectively.
He advised participants to use AI tools as assistants to improve productivity, reduce costs and save time, while encouraging them to develop AI agents independently after acquiring adequate knowledge.
Dr. Gujju also highlighted the need to distinguish between myths and facts surrounding AI and cautioned users to verify AI-generated information before relying on it.
He said AI could play a significant role in teaching and research when combined with well-designed lesson plans and structured learning methods.
The programme was presided over by University Academic Director and COEL Director Prof. Pushpa Chakrapani, who stressed the need to embrace technology in line with changing times while ensuring that AI is used responsibly and for the benefit of society.
Registrar Dr. L. Vijay Krishna Reddy, Prof. Anand Pawar, Officer on Special Duty to the Vice-Chancellor Prof. D. Ravindranath Solomon, AI expert Sushmana Rao, Prof. S.V. Rajashekar Reddy, Prof. Boju Srinivas, Prof. Krishna Reddy, Prof. Chandrakala, Prof. Mary Sunanda, along with directors, deans, heads of departments and faculty members attended the programme.
