Eight Killed as Pick-up Vehicle Falls into Well in Maharashtra’s Solapur District
SOLAPUR (Maharashtra), June 14 (TNT): At least eight people, including four women and four children, were killed and seven others injured when a pick-up vehicle plunged into a roadside well in Malshiras taluka of Maharashtra’s Solapur district on Sunday, police said.
The accident occurred near Tandulwadi village when the vehicle, carrying around 15 passengers, reportedly lost control and fell into the well.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched an operation to retrieve the victims and evacuate the injured.
Police said eight occupants died in the mishap, while the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
The Chief Minister said seven persons had been rescued and were undergoing treatment.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
