Tirupati, Aprt 18 (TNT): A complex medical procedure was successfully carried out at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) Hospital, the Medical Superintendent, Dr Ram, announced on Saturday.
A middle-aged woman from Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh was admitted to SVIMS Hospital with complaints of severe headache, reduced vision in her right eye, and drooping of the right eyelid, the hospital said in a release.
Following detailed medical examinations, doctors diagnosed her with a dangerous brain fungal infection black fungus identified as invasive rhino-orbito-cerebral dual fungal infection (Aspergillus and mucormycosis).
Subsequently, she underwent a rare surgical procedure known as FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery).
Due to the severity of the infection, she was administered expensive Amphotericin B injections and Posaconazole tablets for two weeks. Doctors stated that without this complex and costly treatment, the infection in her brain could have been fatal.
Speaking about her experience, the patient said that she earns her livelihood through daily wage labour and expressed deep gratitude to the TTD administration and SVIMS doctors for providing treatment worth approximately ₹5.18 lakh free of cost.
She further expressed her heartfelt thanks, stating that by the grace of Lord Venkateswara, the TTD and SVIMS management had enabled her to receive this rare surgery free of charge for her life-threatening condition.
Donors contributing to the TTD Pranadanam Scheme for the treatment of poor patients are eligible for income tax exemption and will also receive special darshan of Lord Venkateswara.
