DK Shivakumar Takes Oath as Karnataka’s 18th Chief Minister

Bengaluru, June 3 (TNT) : Senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar (DKS) on Wednesday took oath as the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 64-year-old Congress leader.

Senior Congress leader G. Parameshwara was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister.

Along with Shivakumar and Parameshwara, 13 ministers were inducted into the new cabinet.

Among those sworn in was Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Minister-designate Shivakumar called on Siddaramaiah at his Kaveri residence and thanked him for his support, according to a statement issued by the outgoing Chief Minister’s Office.

The statement said Parameshwara also met Siddaramaiah and expressed his gratitude before taking oath as Deputy Chief Minister.

“Siddaramaiah congratulated both of them and conveyed his best wishes for their tenure,” the statement said.

Former minister R. V. Deshpande was also present during the meeting and extended his congratulations to the new Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.

The swearing-in marks a significant leadership transition in Karnataka, with Shivakumar taking charge of the Congress government amid expectations of continuity in governance and implementation of the party’s welfare and development agenda.
