Hyderabad, Apr 24 (TNT): LightFury Games on Friday announced that leading Indian cricketers, including MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, have invested in the studio and will feature as playable avatars in its upcoming mobile cricket game ‘eCricket’.
Other players backing the venture include Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Tilak Varma and Sai Sudharsan.
They join institutional investors such as Blume Ventures, V3 Ventures, MIXI Inc. and Times Internet as part of the company’s $11 million Pre-Series A funding round.
The upcoming ‘eCricket’ title will be a mobile-first, free-to-play, skill-based sports game with no betting or real-money gaming elements.
It aims to deliver realistic batting and bowling experiences, allowing users to play as their favourite cricketers in dynamic match scenarios.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dhoni said the game aims to address gaps seen in earlier cricket titles and expressed confidence in the studio’s ability to deliver a high-quality product for a global audience.
LightFury Games Co-founder and CEO Karan Shroff said the backing from top cricketers reflects confidence in the company’s vision to build a globally competitive cricket gaming franchise from India.
Earlier this year, the studio secured licensing agreements with over 600 professional cricketers worldwide.
The game will also feature international stars such as Chris Gayle, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Pat Cummins, Jos Buttler, Travis Head and Andre Russell.
The 100-member studio said ‘eCricket’ is being developed as a live-service game aimed at global audiences, with a planned release later this year.
