DGP Calls for Stronger Cultural Ties Between Telangana and North-Eastern States

Hyderabad, July 9 (TNT): Telangana Director General of Police (Law and Order) M. Mahesh Bhagwat on Thursday called for strengthening cultural ties between Telangana and the North-Eastern States, saying such initiatives promote mutual understanding and social harmony.

Speaking at a cultural awareness programme on the heritage and traditions of the North-Eastern States, jointly organised by KIMS Hospitals and the North East Connect Association (NECA) at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, Bhagwat said programmes of this nature help create greater awareness about the history, culture, traditions and languages of the region.

He noted that a large number of people from the North-Eastern States contribute to Telangana, particularly Hyderabad, in sectors such as healthcare, education and other professions, and stressed the need to respect and preserve their cultural identity.

KIMS Group of Hospitals Chairman and Managing Director Dr. B. Bhaskar Rao said many professionals from the North-Eastern States serve in the group’s hospitals in nursing, paramedical and other departments.

The programme was organised to promote a better understanding of their culture and foster an inclusive work environment, he said.

NECA Vice-President Dr. Sarbeshwar Saharia said the association was committed to promoting mutual understanding and respect for people from the North-Eastern States while showcasing India’s cultural diversity.

The event featured a special lecture by University of Hyderabad professor Ajailiu Niumai on the social and cultural distinctiveness of the North-Eastern States.

Senior journalist M. Somasekhar also addressed the gathering.

The programme concluded with cultural performances, including Assam’s traditional Bihu dance, a showcase of traditional attire representing all eight North-Eastern States and a Manipuri dance recital.

Among those present were NECA President and former IAS officer Paparrao Biyyala, Vice-President and former IPS officer Gautam Sawang, Treasurer Stephen Ronojit Sen, Board Member Dr. K. Rajeswara Rao (Retd. IAS), Sridhar Muppidi, KIMS Hospitals Director (Medical Operations) Dr. Sambit Sahu and members of the North-Eastern community residing in Hyderabad.
