Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehend 292 in weekend drunk driving checks
Hyderabad, Sept 13 (TNT): Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted special drunk driving checks over the weekend and apprehended 292 motorists, police said on Sunday.
Of the total offenders, 240 were riding two-wheelers, 12 were driving three-wheelers and 40 were driving four-wheelers, while no heavy vehicle driver was booked.
As many as 248 offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, while 30 recorded levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. Another 14 offenders recorded BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
All the offenders would be produced before the court, police said.
Cyberabad Police warned that drunk driving was a serious offence and said motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a fatal accident would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The provision carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment and fine, police said.
Meanwhile, 681 drunk driving cases were disposed of by courts between September 7 and 12. Of these, 18 persons were awarded fine and imprisonment, seven were awarded fine and social service, while 656 were awarded fine alone.
ADCP Traffic Administration G Narender said the enforcement drive was aimed at preventing accidents caused by drunken driving and urged motorists not to drive after consuming alcohol.
