CSIR-CRRI Showcases Indigenous MSS+ Technology for Sustainable Road Maintenance in Rajasthan
Jaipur, Aug 7 (TNT): The CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) has showcased its indigenously developed Modified Mix Seal Surfacing Plus (MSS+) Technology before the Rajasthan government as a potential solution for cost-effective, sustainable and environmentally friendly road construction and maintenance.
The technology was presented to Rajasthan Chief Secretary V Srinivas,at the State Secretariat by Satish Pandey, Senior Principal Scientist and Head, Flexible Pavement Division, CSIR-CRRI, in the presence of senior officials of the Public Works Department.
The presentation followed an initiative by CSIR Director General and Secretary, DSIR, Dr N Kalaiselvi, who had requested the Rajasthan government to consider indigenous green road technologies developed by CSIR-CRRI for sustainable infrastructure development.
Pandey explained the scientific basis, field performance and economic and environmental benefits of MSS+ technology, highlighting its potential to extend pavement life while reducing construction emissions, energy consumption and maintenance costs.
As part of the programme, CSIR-CRRI conducted a live demonstration on a Jaipur city road using the MSS+ Smart Mix Pro Automatic Plant, an indigenously developed mobile automatic mixing plant designed specifically for Modified Mix Seal Surfacing.
The automated plant facilitates proportioning and mixing of materials, improves quality consistency, reduces material wastage and manual intervention and enhances the speed of road maintenance operations.
The demonstration showcased the technology’s execution methodology, surface finish and operational efficiency. Rajasthan PWD officials appreciated its potential for improving the durability and sustainability of road maintenance works.
Additional Chief Secretary, PWD, Praveen Kumar Gupta said the Rajasthan government was committed to adopting innovative and environmentally responsible technologies that could improve the quality and longevity of road infrastructure.
He said MSS+ technology and the Smart Mix Pro Automatic Plant could offer a promising solution for preventive road maintenance through faster execution, improved quality control and reduced environmental impact.
Pandey said MSS+ technology had already been implemented on more than 100 km of roads in Uttar Pradesh, where it had demonstrated field performance, improved pavement durability and cost-effective maintenance, according to CSIR-CRRI.
The Rajasthan government expressed interest in evaluating the technology for wider application in the state’s road construction and maintenance programmes.
The initiative is aimed at promoting indigenous, resource-efficient and climate-resilient technologies for road infrastructure development, CSIR-CRRI said.
