Congress, BJP Conspiring to Destroy Musi River, Alleges BRS Working Prez KTR
Hyderabad, June 28 (TNT): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday alleged that the Congress government in Telangana and the BJP-led Centre were jointly conspiring to destroy the Musi River by facilitating large-scale deforestation in Vikarabad district, the river’s place of origin.
Addressing the BRS General Body meeting of the Vikarabad Assembly constituency, KTR claimed that while Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was projecting himself as committed to the Musi River rejuvenation project, his government had decided to clear nearly 1.2 million trees spread over more than 2,000 acres of forest land in Vikarabad for the proposed Navy Radar Station.
He alleged that the project was being implemented despite strong opposition from local residents, environmentalists and opposition parties, warning that destruction of forests at the source of the Musi would pose a serious threat to the river’s long-term survival.
Describing Vikarabad as the only hill station in close proximity to Hyderabad, KTR said its forests played a vital role in preserving biodiversity, maintaining ecological balance and providing clean air.
He alleged that the State Government was sacrificing these natural resources under pressure from the BJP-led Union Government.
The BRS leader claimed that the previous BRS government had resisted pressure from the Centre and had refused to part with forest land to safeguard Telangana’s environment.
In contrast, he alleged that the present Congress government had handed over thousands of acres to the Centre at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Highlighting the developmental initiatives undertaken during the BRS regime, KTR said the previous government had established medical colleges, nursing colleges and Gurukul educational institutions in Rangareddy district and transformed it into one of Telangana’s leading real estate destinations.
He alleged that the Congress government had damaged investor confidence and adversely affected the real estate sector through land-related irregularities, accusing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his family of involvement in land grabbing.
KTR also criticised Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad, alleging that he had made misleading statements regarding the state’s financial position despite holding a constitutional office.
He claimed that Reserve Bank of India reports placed before the Assembly contradicted the Congress government’s allegations against the previous BRS administration.
Accusing the Congress government of failing to fulfil its election promises, KTR said farmers and other sections of society had been betrayed, leading to widespread public dissatisfaction across Telangana.
He also alleged that the government had deliberately withheld irrigation water from the Uddandapur Reservoir project completed during the BRS regime to deny political credit to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, thereby depriving farmers in Rangareddy district of irrigation benefits.
Warning police officials against registering what he described as false cases against BRS workers, KTR asserted that the Congress government’s tenure was nearing its end and claimed that the BRS would return to power in the state.
