CM Revanth urges Centre to expedite clearances for Telangana irrigation projects
New Delhi, Sept. 29 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil to facilitate an agreement with Maharashtra for the construction of the proposed Tummidihatti barrage and expedite pending clearances for various irrigation projects in the state.
Revanth accompanied by State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, met Patil in New Delhi and discussed pending issues concerning Telangana’s irrigation projects in the Krishna and Godavari river basins.
The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to facilitate an agreement between Telangana and Maharashtra for constructing the Tummidihatti barrage at a Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of +152 metres.
He said the proposed height would enable water to be supplied to the Yellampalli project through gravity, reducing electricity consumption and the associated costs.
The Chief Minister also sought environmental clearances for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS), Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme (DLIS), Sitarama Sagar Multipurpose Project (SSMP) and Gauravelli reservoirs.
Referring to the recently announced guidelines for environmental clearances following a Supreme Court verdict, he urged the Centre to expedite approvals, stating that delays were increasing project construction costs.
Revanth Reddy also requested the Union Minister to expedite pending clearances from the Central Water Commission (CWC) for the Sammakka Sagar project.
He said the project’s Detailed Project Report had been submitted to the commission and approvals were awaited for its irrigation plan and inter-state aspects.
The Chief Minister informed Patil that discussions were underway with the Chhattisgarh government to obtain a no-objection certificate for the Sammakka Sagar project.
The two leaders also discussed the pending installation of telemetry systems being undertaken by the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB).
Revanth said the state government had deposited ₹4.15 crore towards the first phase and requested the speedy completion of installations in all three phases.
State Minister G Vivek Venkatswamy, MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, MLA Gaddam Vinod, State Government Advisor (Irrigation) Adityanath Das and the Chief Minister’s Secretary Manikraj were also present at the meeting.
