Centre Approves 1,015 Grain Storage Projects Under Cooperative Sector Plan: Amit Shah
New Delhi, July 29 (TNT): The Centre has approved 1,015 grain storage projects under the World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in the Cooperative Sector, of which 313 godowns have been completed and 203 projects are under construction, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
In a written reply, Shah said the plan, approved by the government on May 31, 2023, aims to create agriculture infrastructure at the Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) level through the convergence of various central schemes.
The infrastructure includes warehouses, custom hiring centres, processing units and fair price shops under schemes such as the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure Scheme (AMI), Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) and the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme.
According to the Union minister, Gujarat has received the highest number of approved projects at 275, followed by Rajasthan with 201 and Andhra Pradesh with 117.
Among completed projects, Andhra Pradesh leads with 117 godowns, followed by Rajasthan with 121, while Gujarat has completed 44. Gujarat also has the highest number of projects under construction at 84, followed by Rajasthan with 80 and Maharashtra with 23.
