CAT Disposed of Over 9.32 Lakh Cases Since Inception: Justice R.V. More
New Delhi, Aug. 4 (TNT): Chairman of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Justice Ranjit Vasantrao More, on Tuesday called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh and briefed him on the Tribunal’s initiatives aimed at strengthening administrative justice through institutional reforms, wider outreach and technology-driven service delivery.
During the meeting, Justice More informed the Minister that the Tribunal has received more than 10 lakh cases since its inception and disposed of over 9.32 lakh cases, maintaining an overall disposal rate of more than 93 per cent.
He also informed the Minister that pendency has declined significantly in recent years despite a steady inflow of fresh cases and that the Tribunal disposed of more cases than it received during 2025.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said the Narendra Modi-led Government has consistently pursued governance reforms to make public institutions more transparent, efficient and citizen-centric.
He said administrative justice is an integral part of good governance and reforms should continue to improve accessibility, efficiency and ease of service delivery for government employees.
The Union Minister said technology-driven governance, transparency and process simplification are transforming public institutions by improving accountability and reducing procedural delays.
Referring to the Tribunal’s progress, he said its expanding digital ecosystem, infrastructure development and improved case disposal reflected the broader governance reforms being undertaken by the Government.
Emphasising access to justice, Dr. Jitendra Singh said the establishment of new Benches and commencement of Circuit Sittings in remote regions had brought administrative justice closer to litigants while reducing travel and improving convenience for government employees.
Justice More informed the Minister that the Tribunal has established new Benches at Jammu and Srinagar and started Circuit Sittings at Puducherry, Leh, Kargil and Vijayawada, expanding access to administrative justice in underserved regions.
He also briefed the Minister on the progress made under the Advanced Case Information System (ACIS), which provides services such as e-filing, virtual hearings, online display boards, SMS and email alerts, online court fee payment, mobile application, e-certified copies, digital inspection of records, e-mentioning, e-listing and paperless court functioning.
Justice More further said the Tribunal has implemented e-Office across all Benches, onboarded officers and staff onto e-HRMS, adopted the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) and introduced digital processing of pension cases through the Bhavishya Portal as part of its digital governance initiatives.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said these initiatives are aligned with the Government’s Digital India vision and reiterated that the Centre would continue supporting reforms that strengthen institutional capacity, improve service delivery and leverage technology to build efficient, accountable and citizen-centric institutions.
