BRS Demands Removal of Union Minister Bamdo Sanjay for fair probe in POCSO Case
Hyderabad, May 17 (TNT) : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday , demanded the immediate dismissal of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the Union Cabinet in connection with the ongoing POCSO case involving his son Bandi Sai Bageerath.
A week after a POCSO case was registered against him, Bandi Sai Bhageerath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, was sent to judicial custody for 14 days following his arrest on Saturday evening.
Sanjay, however, said that his son had surrendered before the Pet Basheerabad police station. Advocates also accompanied him at the time of surrender, the MoS said in a press release.
However, in a release, the Cyberabad police stated that Bhageerath was apprehended near Tech Park in Manchirevula under the limits of Narsingi police station at 8.15 pm on Saturday following a naka-bandi organised near the Telangana Police Academy based on reliable information.
Speaking at a party event in LB Nagar here,,KTR stated that an impartial and transparent investigation would not be possible while the Union Minister continued in office.
Referring to the Centre’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” slogan, he said justice cannot be achieved if such messages remain mere political rhetoric.
He remarked that it may be the first instance in the country where a lookout notice had to be issued against the son of a sitting Union Minister.
KTR questioned how the accused allegedly remained hidden for nine days and asked who protected him during that period.
Alleging misuse of power and influence, KTR said allowing individuals facing serious allegations to continue in constitutional positions was not only an insult to Telangana but to the entire nation.
The BRS leader further alleged that while injustice was committed against a minor girl, the victim’s family was also subjected to intimidation and pressure.
He accused the Union Minister of allegedly threatening and harassing the victim’s parents.
KTR also criticised Anumula Revanth Reddy, alleging that the Telangana government attempted to dilute the seriousness of the case.
He accused both the BJP and Congress leaderships of trying to suppress the issue by portraying it as a “honey trap” and allegedly influencing sections of the media.
Warning against shielding influential individuals from accountability, KTR said such actions would discourage women and minor girls from coming forward in future cases of abuse or harassment.
He reiterated his demand for the immediate removal of the Union Minister and called for an independent and transparent investigation.
KTR praised the courage of the victim’s parents, particularly the victim’s mother, for continuing their fight despite alleged threats and pressure. He described their struggle for justice as “historic and courageous.”
He also lauded the efforts of BRS women leaders, student organisations, activists, and social media campaigners who, according to him, continuously pursued justice in the case.
He said BRS leaders staged protests across Telangana, approached the Women’s Commission and the DGP, and organised demonstrations at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue demanding action.
KTR further appreciated senior BRS leader R. S. Praveen Kumar for strongly supporting the victim’s family and taking up the issue publicly.
He concluded by stating that sustained public pressure and protests by BRS cadres, women leaders, and activists eventually led to the accused surrendering and the initiation of arrest proceedings, offering some hope of justice to the victim’s family.
