BRS Demands Rahul Gandhi’s Apology Over Revanth Reddy’s ‘Criminal Waste’ Remarks
Hyderabad, Aug 2 (TNT) :BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday demanded that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi issue an unconditional public apology over Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s alleged remarks describing engineering students as “criminal waste.”
In a four-page letter addressed to Rahul Gandhi, KTR questioned whether the Chief Minister’s remarks reflected the Congress party’s official stand on engineering students, youth and higher education.
Holding Rahul Gandhi politically and morally accountable as the Congress leader who campaigned for the party and backed Revanth Reddy for the Chief Minister’s post, KTR said the Congress could not distance itself from the controversy.
“The political as well as moral responsibility ultimately rests with you,” KTR said in the letter, adding that Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the issue amounted to endorsement of the Chief Minister’s alleged remarks.
The BRS leader alleged that the comments had insulted lakhs of engineering students, teachers and parents, and said describing engineers as “criminal waste” undermined both the profession and the dignity of the constitutional office held by the Chief Minister.
KTR further alleged that the remarks were not an isolated incident but part of a pattern of statements targeting students, youth and the teaching community.
He accused the Congress government in Telangana of repeatedly making derogatory comments against the younger generation.
Demanding corrective action, KTR urged Rahul Gandhi to issue an unconditional public apology to engineering students, university students, teachers and youth across the country.
He also called upon the Congress leader to direct Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to withdraw the alleged remarks and tender an unconditional apology to those hurt by them.
Stating that Telangana’s youth were closely watching the developments, KTR said the people would deliver their verdict through the democratic process, adding that the judgment of an awakened generation would outlast temporary political power.
