BJP Telangana Chief Rao Slams Congress Over Telangana Formation

Hyderabad, Apr 16 (TNT): BJP Telangana state President N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday criticised the Congress party over its handling of the Telangana statehood process, alleging that delays by the party led to loss of lives during the movement.

Addressing the media, Rao said that during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, three new states—Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand—were formed smoothly without violence or unrest, reflecting responsible and balanced leadership by the BJP.

In contrast, he alleged that the Congress, despite governing the undivided state, delayed the decision on Telangana, which led to unrest, suicides among youth, and loss of lives.

He said the movement became “marked by bloodshed and suffering” due to the party’s inaction.

Rao stated that Telangana was achieved after immense sacrifices by students and youth, and said it was inappropriate for the Congress to claim full credit for the state’s formation.

He also criticised the then Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, alleging that his initial announcement followed by a reversal created uncertainty and worsened the situation.

Referring to a recent controversy, Rao accused the BRS of misrepresenting remarks made by a BJP MP.

He clarified that the comments were made in the context of historical loss of lives during India’s Partition and were not intended to draw a direct comparison with Telangana.

He termed the row as “false propaganda” aimed at political gain.

He asserted that the BJP had played a key role in the Telangana movement, recalling support extended by senior leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh in Parliament.

He alleged that several Congress MPs did not participate effectively at the time.

Rao further clarified that Telangana had never been compared to Pakistan and said the remarks in question were being deliberately distorted.

He warned against attempts to mislead the public and said such campaigns should stop immediately.

Stating that Telangana was formed after significant sacrifices, he said any attempt to insult the state or hurt the sentiments of its people would not be tolerated.

He urged people to understand statements in their proper context and not fall for misleading narratives.
