BJP Slams Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Over Claim on FIRs Against Morphed Content
Hyderabad, Aug. 6 (TNT): BJP Telangana State President N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for reportedly claiming credit for the registration of FIRs by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police against Meta India head Arun Srinivas and several social media account operators over the circulation of alleged morphed content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a statement, Rao termed the Chief Minister’s reported remarks misleading and hypocritical, alleging that they reflected the Congress government’s “double standards”.
The BJP leader asserted that the FIRs were registered following complaints lodged by Telangana BJP members regarding allegedly morphed, obscene and objectionable content circulated on social media against the Prime Minister, and not due to any initiative of the state government.
According to Rao, based on the BJP’s complaints, the Cyber Crime Police registered two cases under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.
Questioning the Chief Minister’s reported claim, Rao asked why Hyderabad Cyber Crime Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Aravind Babu was relieved of his responsibilities and directed to report to the State Police Headquarters shortly after the cases were registered.
He alleged that the Chief Minister could not claim credit for the FIRs while simultaneously penalising the police officer who had discharged his duties.
Rao further alleged that the repeated transfers of officials were affecting the morale and independence of the state’s administration.
